Looking for Full Time Employee-making molds and he...

Hi Everyone-

My name is Nathan Scott. I'm a sculptor with my own bronze foundry and I'm looking for an employee (or two). I've had great success previously in Victoria hiring someone from Makerspace so thought I'd give it a shot here! I live and work in Knutsford, 15 min south (driving) of Aberdeen Mall.

I'd love to hire someone with lost wax mold making and casting experience, but that is hard to come by! I will likely be training my employee on all the various processes we do from casting in wax, helping make rubber and fibreglass molds, to casting in metal and some assistance in the finishing of the metal pieces.

The ideal candidate will have excellent ability to pay attention to detail, be eager to learn new processes and take instruction well. Much of the processes will be the same, so you must be able to be content with repetitive tasks. There is only myself in the shop, and I will be mainly working on other parts of the process, so it may be useful to have more of an introverted personality and be content working alone for hours at a time. Must be self-directed, able to think about what the next step is without always needed to be prompted.

Must be physically able to work with larger pieces-there is some strength involved in things like dipping larger pieces in ceramic and moving around heavy pieces. Efficiency balanced with attention to detail is important in casting work.

Must have your own transportation as I am located 15 minutes south of City View/Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops and no busses come this way!

This is a drama-free zone! I like a contented work place!

Duties

  • Assisting in mold making-helping apply rubber and fibreglassing
  • LARGE PORTION of the work is working with wax, casting wax into the rubber molds
  • looking for and fixing imperfections and small bubbles in the wax with hand tools
  • dipping wax pieces into ceramic slurry
  • helping to pour molten metal into the molds
  • May help with metal finishing work
  • Help assemble components as needed, ensuring that all parts fit together well
  • Tig-welding would be a bonus if there is potential skill there (in the past, I have put employees through a TIG welding course if they showed promise in welding and metal work)
  • Computer marketing skills would be a bonus if there is some skill there

Requirements

  • Past work experience that shows some skill in some parts of the process-even just excellent attention to detail, and excellent work ethic will be helpful
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Willingness to work in a casting environment safely. If you are passionate about manufacturing and have the skills necessary for this role, we encourage you to apply. Apply if you want to contribute to the production of high-quality bronze sculptures in a calm work environment.

Pay starts to $22/hour and I'll reassess after a while-we can discuss this in person

If this is something you're interested in, please send me a resume at n69scott@gmail.com. I'm not always at the computer, so please don't expect a quick reply. I also don't get back to everyone who applies...I'm looking for a great fit and will wait for someone who appears to be the right person. Thanks!
